  • Portuguese uses five diacritics: acute accent, grave accent, circumflex accent, tilde, and cedilla). Brazilian Portuguese also uses a diaeresis mark.
  • Brazilian poet Olavo Bilac described Portuguese as “a última flor do Lácio, inculta e bela” (“the last flower of Latium, wild and beautiful”).
